Milan Fashion Week: At The Jil Sander Showroom
The room contains the complete wardrobe for the woman, as Raf Simons imagines for Jil Sander, in a day in the arc of her life at home and in society. Lingerie-inspired slip dresses, corset-inspired sheaths, A-line and oversized cashmere coats like cocooning blankets are beautifully thought through. But there are “cracks” too. Unexpected twists. Imperfections. These are expressed in the deconstructed cut of a skirt, a slit here, a dart there, a lift and a fall; or a patchwork of disparate textures such as knits, wool and PVC in one outfit. It is an intellectually rigorous exercise in fashion but no less expected from Simons. This being his last outing with the brand, a key piece bought is an item of investment.
